When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ – Matt. 28:12-13 NIV

The Pharisees and the elders had felt threatened throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. They simply could not stop the people from following him and believing his teachings. In every city he got to, he had done enough to convince the people that he was indeed a Messiah of some sorts – Acts 10:38. He was healing the sick, raising the dead and restoring the sight of the blind. His activity was not only spiritual as he was also taking care of their physical needs – Lk. 9:10-17. In fact, he gave them all round package and despite all these positives, he did not make any demand of them that was out of place. All he asked of them was for them to believe that he was sent by the Almighty God (Jn. 8:29) to save them from the eternal damnation brought upon them by sin (Jn. 3:16) and that task he would achieve if only they could follow his teachings which are from the Lord (Jn. 5:19; Jn. 12:49) and which is encapsulated in the need for them to love the Almighty God wholeheartedly and love their neighbour as themselves – Matt. 22:37-40. According to the disciple John, these teachings were not difficult – 1Jn. 5:3. What a small price to pay for a priceless reward.
This is unlike the Pharisees who hid behind the authority of the Romans to oppress and deprive them of all that Jesus Christ taught, promise and gave to them almost free of charge. They were making so much fortune for themselves in this manner. Moreso Jesus was attracting huge crowds everywhere he went and never stopped exposing them for who they were, hypocrites that is, and so it was the expected, that they see Jesus as an enemy and desire to eliminate him but how were they going to do this amidst the tremendous love that he was receiving from the people – Matt. 21:46. They will need to look for someone to help them eliminate him and this they did by framing him up before Pilate and Herod and eventually blackmailing Pilate into approving that he be eliminated – Lk. 23:1-25.
They must have had great cause to celebrate after his crucifixion and burial believing that they had eventually gotten rid of the one they have come to see as their enemy – Lk. 23:26-57. In order to ensure that the act was completely accomplished, they had arranged for soldiers to guide the entrance to a tomb that they had already sealed by rolling a huge stone to cover – Matt. 27:62-66. That way they thought, no one will be able to undo what they had done but alas, they were wrong.
This is because they under-rated the immense power of the Almighty God. The fact that no power is able to withstand His power and when he decides to move, no one can stop Him just as whatever He stops, no one can start – Rev. 3:7. It took even the acclaimed spiritually powerful Balaam, offering three unaccepted sacrifices to realise this – Num. 23:1-30. The guards were still stationed at the entrance of the tomb when the angel rolled away the stone that was covering the entrance of the tomb, only for them to discover that all they were guarding was an empty tomb – Matt. 28:1-6. In an unexplainable manner, Jesus had not only risen, he had left the tomb. Death could not hold him down, the grave could not either – Acts 2:24. The big stone did not have to move for him to exit the tomb and the alertness of the soldiers was insufficient to see him leave. He had made an open mockery of all powers that both the devil and his agents thought were great and one can only imagine the embarrassment that the whole situation brought on the soldiers, elders and their father the devil – Col. 2:15. This was a shame they could not contain and the only way to at least mitigate the situation was to, in their now usual manner cook up a story to undermined the greatness of power that had just been displayed. In the scripture that is the foundation of the devotional for today, their plan that involved giving the soldiers some money so that they can peddle the lies that his disciples came in the night to steal his body was revealed. This was a move that was already too late as they already had eggs on their faces. It must have been a huge embarrassment to them and to their father the devil. His resurrection had made a public ridicule of them.
However, all their efforts was never able to cover the truth which was that indeed he rose and he is alive. This was a glory that no human plan could cover. It had the Almighty God as its beginning, its end and all in between. Similarly, Christians need to worry less about the ammunition deployed against their manifestation. If indeed the manifestation is rooted in the Lord, then no force, whether human or spiritual can successfully stop it. One can only imagine the fun the angels were having watching the elders do all they could to ensure that he remained held down by death. It was indeed a complete ridiculing of their so called authority. They simply could not stop what God had started.
The Christian today needs to understand the significance of this event surrounding the resurrection of Jesus Christ and know that the world can only stop what the Lord is not involved in. It is simply impossible to stop what the Lord has started. He is the one that opens a door and no one can shut and likewise, when he shuts a door, no one can open it – Rev. 3:7. That being the case, the Christian today should worry less about the activities of enemies, especially when things do not go as expected. It is definitely a sign that the Almighty God is not involved. Why he chose not to be involved is a different issue entirely but when he is involved, there is nothing like failure.
There may be a misaligned expectation where what the individual was expecting was not what God intended. The Christian in this case must learn to align all expectations with the Will of God. Only His Will will be done and for the one operating in His Will, there is no enemy to fear – Rom. 8:31. The righteous may fall seven times but he will surely rise – Prov. 24:16. It is not about the success of arresting him neither is it the success of framing him up. It is not even about the success recorded in getting approval for his crucifixion neither is it about the actual success in crucifying him. It is not about his death on the cross or about the successful burial of the son of God. It was not about all the security put in place to stop his manifestation, but it was about the great and displayed power that not only brought him back to life but also ridiculed all the efforts of the devil and his agents.
Worry less about all these powers that seem to be succeeding and give greater thoughts to the ultimate power that will ensure that your manifestation cannot be held back. Human conspiracies cannot hold back what the Almighty God has decided to manifest. Spend your time in prayer seeking to have access to this power and you can be sure of victory in the end. May God grant you access to that great power in Jesus name. Amen.
