Saved By The Blood

And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. – Exo. 12:13 KJV

The Almighty God had decided that it was time for the Israelites to be delivered from slavery in the land of Egypt and thus commissioned Moses and his brother Aaron as His tools to be used for the deliverance – Exo. 3:7 – 4:17.

With the support of the Lord and in the company of Aaron, Moses had invoked ten plagues before Pharaoh on Egypt but none was sufficient to make him release his clutches on the Israelites – Exo. 7:1-10:29 . Whereas he was able to get his wisemen, magicians and sorcerers to replicate the signs and wonders on the first three occasions, their failure on subsequent occasions was still not sufficient to make him change his mind. Like the Almighty God mentioned to Moses, Pharaoh’s heart had been hardened by Him so that he could destroy him – Exo. 7:3. The master stroke was to arrive when the Almighty God on this occasion prepared the mind of Moses for the departure of the Israelites from Egypt unlike the previous occasions. On this occasion, he let Moses know that, that was going to be the last one as He, the Almighty God was going to send the angel of death to every household of the Egyptians who was going to kill the first son of every household – Exo. 11:4-10.

In preparation for this last act and in order to provide a cover for the Israelites who were living in the Goshen part of Egypt from the activities of the angel of death, each household, in a ceremony that became the prelude to the modern day Passover, was to sacrifice a clean one year old male lamb, mark the top and sides of their door with the blood and roast the flesh, to be consumed with bitter herbs and unleavened bread, all in one night. Should a lamb be too big for a household, they could unite with another, according to the judgement of Moses, on the number of lambs per household, to ensure that every part of the Lamb was consumed in a ready for flight manner. Whatever remains must be burnt before morning. The blood on the door post according to the foundation scripture for today’s devotion was to be a token to ensure that the angel of death who was to pass over such homes does not visit them with death whilst in the process of implementing judgement by visiting every household of the Egyptians with death – Exo. 11:1-13.

It turned out to be a great night of deliverance and joy in the land of Goshen but sad and wailing night in the rest of Egypt as every home of the Egyptians lost the first son whilst no such event happened to the Israelites – Exo. 12:28-30. For Pharaoh, this was the proverbial last straw that broke the Camel’s back as he immediately issued instructions for the release of all the Israelites from bondage. They suddenly became free to go with all their possessions. Free at last! – Exo. 12:31-36.

Indeed there are many children of God today who are under one form of oppression or the other and are waiting anxiously on the Lord for deliverance. Although the time for deliverance is still an exclusive decison of the Almighty God, there is no need for the sacrifice of the year old lamb again as an ultimate sacrifice had been made by Jesus Christ with his death and the shedding of his blood on the Cross at Calvary. Whether the bondage is due to sin or the wicked acts of oppressive people, this once and for all sacrifice is sufficient to provide deliverance and freedom. All that is required is for the Christian under one form of bondage and oppression or the other to continue to plead this blood and at God’s own time, freedom and deliverance will come. However, mere pleading of the blood may not be sufficient as the blood only works for those who have taken the decision to worship Jehovah God exclusively and have accepted His son as Lord and Saviour.

To accept him as Lord and Savior
1. Is to accept him holistically without reservation as the ruler of one’s life. Every aspect of such a person’s life must be governed solely by his instructions. The Israelites ate every part of the sacrificed lamb but the modern day Christian is expected to consume every instructions that comes out from the Jesus Christ just as the Prophet Ezekiel did – Deut. 8:3; Eze. 3:3.
2. Is to receive the mark of his salvation as a token, similar to the mark of the blood on the door post of each household of the Israelite, that will help the Christian to process divine knowledge and information in a more efficient manner. This mark this time is the Holy Spirit with which he sealed all those who have taken the decision to believe and accept his teachings as a life style – Eph. 1:13; Jn. 14:26; 16:12-15. Such would have gone through both the water baptism for the remission of sins and the Holy Spirit baptism.
3. Is to be prepared to face the challenges that the ruler of this world has placed before all believers. Like the Israelites were prepared, the one who has taken this decision must be prepared at all times to confront these challenges head long, of course with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Success in this decision will be achieved if such remains in the Lord without doubt. Like Jesus Christ advised, the one that wishes to follow him must prepare to carry his/her cross – Matt. 16:24-25.
In summary there is a blood available for the one who intends to be free from any form of oppression or bondage. Unlike the Israelites, it is the benefit of a sacrifice made by the Almighty God on behalf of man and it remains fresh and relevant eternally. It can be a token to stand you out for victory and deliverance if only you accept him as Lord and savior. The blood has never stopped flowing and it will continue to do so until he returns. Take advantage of this grace today whilst it is still available as tomorrow may be too late. May the blood continue to speak for us in all our trials and tribulations in Jesus name. Amen.
