That life is about purposes and fulfilment of those purposes is in no doubt a fact. Every living creature, man or lower animals are all aiming at achieving one purpose or the other. In fact it will be a very wrong comment to describe anyone as not living a purpose driven life. Everyone has a purpose for actions taken. All that can be said is that, the concerned personality may either or do not see the purpose of the actions of the individual in reference or may not agree with the aims and objective of that purpose but no living being sets out on an action, including being idle, without a purpose.
Some of these purposes are achieved in which case the person considers the purpose and process as being a successful one. Those who are aware of the purpose that the individual has set and see that the purpose was achieved also consider the individual as being successful.
Everyone desires to succeed on every set out task but the motivation for success varies from one to the other. Whereas some are highly motivated, probably by the joy that the desired success will bring or by the fear of the pain associated with failure on the task, some actually lack any form of motivation and such people seem prepared to take whatever the outcome of the effort put into the task is. This could be so for several reasons ranging from the insignificant effect that failure on the task has on the individual to frustrations arising from several previous failures. One with rich folks, for example may not be that motivated for success like one who has unpaid and mounting bills hanging all over. The latter has enough motivation in the intense desire to avoid the consequences of not succeeding with a task that is expected to yield financial success. It must also be noted that success in one task is not an assurance that success will be achieved on all other tasks. The one who is successful in one task may actually be a huge failure in the next task. In fact there is hardly anyone that would not have experienced some level of failure on tasks at some stage in life.
The implication of failure on some tasks can be very devastating and sometimes even life threatening and the fear of failure remains a prominent feature in the thoughts process of most people especially one that needs to succeed to avoid embarrassing situations. It is the need to achieve success at all times that makes human beings in particular seek support, human and spiritual.
Although, the sought help is ultimately provided by another human being, the Christian is encouraged by the bible not to see the human being as the source of the help but as the channel through whom the help is obtained. This is because all help, according to the holy scriptures, is from the Almighty God and if He does not help someone to achieve success, no one can help such a person – 2Kgs. 6:27. The Psalmist makes it clear that whatever help he expects is from the Lord so he will continue to look up to Him and no other – Psa. 121:1. Many people due to personal experiences have also concluded that depending on another man for help to achieve success will always make them a potential candidate for disappointment and frustration, so they will rather seek help from a deity whom they are sure will not fail them if a promise is made.
Today, many people especially Christians, having read through the scriptures have come across several of those promises made by the Almighty God, to provide help in times of need and due to the trust they have in Him, they have held on to those promises. It is definitely not a wrong choice to make because every promise of the Almighty God will be kept but only if the individual concerned fulfils the conditions for the fulfilment of those promises. That remains the challenge for the Christian today. Beyond the fact that they are usually not even aware of the conditions to be met before the promise can be fulfilled, they most times go on a journey that can only end in failure by putting emphasis on actions like prayers in a manner that seems just doing that is all that is required for the promise to be fulfilled and the success achieved. The consequence is the high number of frustrated Christians in the society today whose life continues to be an example of what failure is. Precious time is spent on very long prayer sessions and ineffective vigils that all end in failure, not because prayer does not work but because prayer is not all that is required. It is not unusual to hear Christians call prayer the Master Key and one begins to wonder why so many success doors remain locked despite the number of hours and all the efforts devoted to prayer sessions. The truth is that prayer does not open any door if the individual does not put in the required and appropriate effort necessary for success to be achieved. A key in truth may be a Master Key but it will definitely require someone to insert into the keyhole and do the necessary maneuverings rightly, for the key to succeed in opening the door. There is simply no key in the world that will on its own insert itself into a keyhole, do the necessary twists and turns and open the door.
Prayers remain a source of receiving spiritual enablement that can support physical efforts, that is if the effort are the right ones and are being deployed in the right quantity and in the right manner. Prayer will never make someone plant corn and harvest beans just as prayer will never put money in the bank account of one who does not work for it. Prayer may be able to provide supernatural support that will lead to success which will exceed natural expectations but that will be after an effort has been made.
It is simply impossible for anyone to spend precious and valuable time praying when such times could have been used to implement actions that have been spiritually recommended during prayers. It is definitely not a coincidence that Jesus Christ told his followers to “Watch and Pray” and not “Pray and Watch”. His advise for receiving involves and action preceding a successful result. His disciples are advised to Ask and Receive, Seek and Find, Knock and have a the door opened and not the other way round. Prayers will definitely work better of the one praying has out in the right effort in the appropriate proportion.
Donations may be made to the one that is praying but the action will still not be considered as success. This is because until, the individual puts in effort to invest the donation wisely, possibly through the directives obtained during prayer, such act of generosity cannot be called success, but a failure waiting to evolve.
Christians indeed should never stop praying but it will remain a mirage for any Christian or anyone for that matter to think that success will come by spending valuable time that should have been invested in success oriented ventures in prayer sessions. Working cannot stop prayer just as prayer should not be the reason for not working. The one that does not work is on the path to failure. Christians must pray to seek success but the beginning of success is the implementation of success oriented activities, probably ordered by the revelations received during prayer. The one who refuses to leave prayer locations for working location will receive only one result and that is failure. Be wise! Work and Pray.
