What A Coincidence.

Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. – Est. 2:17 NIV

King Xerxes, on the seventh day of a long celebration and in high spirits,  had sent instructions to his queen, Vashti to appear before him in royal robes, in the course of his celebration with his nobles, but the queen sent the eunuchs back with the response that she was not showing up. This angered the king who after consulting with his nobles agreed that Queen Vashti be stripped of her position as the queen to serve as a deterrent to other women who will want to follow her lead, in disrespecting their husbands – Est. 1: 10-22. This event, unknowingly commenced the process of activating destiny plans of God for someone who was about to be elevated.

The king’s personal assistants were to later suggest to the king, the need for a replacement for Queen Vashti and the King accepted their proposal. They were to look for beautiful women all over the provinces under the king’s authority, who are to be kept in the Harem in the citadel of Susa under the control of Hegai. They are to be prepared for 12 months before their meeting with the king – Est. 2:2-4.

Before now, all that happened in the King’s palace seemed like normal activities as the spiritual angle to it would not be imagined, more so thought about by most people. All that was visible was the arrogance of the queen for unexplainable reasons, but request for women to be suggested as replacement for the queen revealed a candidate that none would have imagined could ever be considered, more so become the replacement for the queen.  It had suddenly occurred to Mordecai, a Benjamite, who was one of the exiles from Jerusalem that his cousin, Hadassah should be considered for that position – Est. 2:5-7. This was unprecedented that the daughter of a slave and a foreigner at that will think of becoming a queen but impossibilities become possibilities and traditions have no relevance when the Almighty God decides to move. It is very possible that even Mordecai with benefit of hindsight may not be able to explain the choice of Hadassah but he offered her and no other, as a replacement for Queen Vashti anyway.

Hadassah which means compassion, had been renamed Esther, which in some translations mean, hidden (Est. 2:10), but she will only remain hidden until God decides to show her compassion and reveal her glory, because, of all the women that were presented to Hegai who was in charge of the king’s harem, only Hadassah had pleased him and won his favour. He immediately gave her preferential treatment by assigning seven attendants to her to provide special beauty treatments and food for her and moved her into preferred location within the harem – Est. 2:8-9.  Still a coincidence, right? Well you are free to think that way.

All the young women after undergoing the 12 months period of beauty treatment request for whatever they feel would enhance their chances, once it is their turn to visit the king but with Hadassah, she had divine wisdom to take the recommendation of Hegai and nothing else, and the scripture says she won the favour of everyone – Est. 2:12-14. Probably another coincidence you will say.

It was probably that same coincidence that was at work when, on going before the king, she won his favour and approval and was promptly crowned queen to replace Vashti – Est. 2:15-18. An orphan, a cousin of an ordinary slave and a foreigner had become queen of a king whose influence transcended 127 provinces stretching from India to Cush – Est. 1:1.

When human beings run out of explanation about divine activities, they often describe those events in words that attempt deprive God of praise and gratitude, and mask the fact that their knowledge is limited. One of those words is “coincidence”. Coincidence, is defined as a remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances without apparent causal connection. However the truth remains that the Almighty God rules in the affairs of men – Dan. 4:17.

Christians need to understand that the events that will lead to the manifestation of that promise may not be known or predictable, but that confirms the limit of man’s knowledge as with God, His ways are mysterious to accomplish His works – Is. 55:8. Let the world call it coincidence but see it as the movement of God. Their coincidence cannot be repeated but God has repeated his mysterious movements in the life of his people over and over again and your case will not be different. It has nothing to do with the ability or availability of your parents neither will it have anything to do with your citizenship or social level. It will be about his favour and favour and favour alone. Hadassah became queen in a series of moves that unwise people will call coincidence, but whatever the world may call it, in a series of moves that are divinely arranged, you will defy all odds to achieve the unimaginable in Jesus name. Amen.

  1. I and my friends have already been viewing the excellent pointers found on the blog and so then I had a horrible suspicion I never expressed respect to the website owner for them. The young men came for that reason warmed to learn all of them and have simply been having fun with those things. Thanks for simply being very considerate as well as for considering variety of awesome areas most people are really desperate to discover. My personal honest apologies for not expressing appreciation to you sooner.

  2. I must express some appreciation to the writer for rescuing me from this particular setting. After looking out through the online world and coming across ways that were not helpful, I figured my entire life was well over. Being alive without the presence of approaches to the problems you’ve sorted out all through your good website is a critical case, and those that would have badly affected my career if I hadn’t discovered the blog. The expertise and kindness in playing with the whole thing was precious. I’m not sure what I would’ve done if I hadn’t come upon such a step like this. I can also now relish my future. Thanks very much for this skilled and result oriented guide. I won’t hesitate to refer the sites to any individual who ought to have support about this topic.
