Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” – Gen. 1:26 NIV

Biblical records reveal that the Almighty God saw the earth in a complete state of disorder and within a period equivalent to 5 days, He transformed the earth into not just an ordered planet with all the elements operating within their allotted time and space, but one occupied by plants, animals, birds and sea creatures with all of them knowing their boundaries of operations – Gen. 1:1- 25. He looked at it all and He concluded that they were good and beautiful.
He must have also thought of how to ensure that the world does not revert to its disorderly state, something that was very likely to happen if there was no one saddled with the responsibility to ensure that things did not return to status ante, hence the idea of the creation of a being that will have an ability similar to His. Whoever was going to do a good job on that schedule would definitely be expected to have a higher mental ability than the creature, living or non living that he was to administer and this probably led to the thought of creating a being to be called man – Gen. 2:15.
In order to meet this goal, He took the step that was revealed in today’s scripture on the day that was called the sixth day. The Bible says He called on those with Him to come together for the purpose of creating man. The summary of that scripture is as follows:
1. God called on those with him to come together for the purpose of creating man.
2. This creature was going to be in the likeness of them who were already existing at that time.
3. This creature was going to be empowered to rule over all the living creatures.
4. This creature was however not empowered to control elements of nature like the sun, moon, stars, sea, air, wind, etc.
That project, like similar projects was successfully completed and the Bible says God again saw that a good and perfect job had being done. In order to fulfil His intention for this creation, he made verbal pronouncements, decreeing all He wanted into the life of this creature in a move that has since been described as God blessing man – Gen. 1:27-30.
The following however is the observation about that same creature today;
1. Indeed, the soul part of the creature called man bears similarities to the beings in the spiritual realm but wears the additional dress suitable for the inhabitants of this realm. There is no doubt man will need to discard that dress on exit from this realm – 1Cor. 15:53-54.
2. Man is not manifesting any authority as decreed by the Almighty God during his creation. If anything, they seem more like being subjects under some authority, probably of the devil.
3. Man is not manifesting as a creature that is blessed as there is so much deprivation and lack all around him. The bulk of the race of man today is due to the fear of poverty.
This definitely is not the result of failure on the part of God to bring to pass, whatever he had decreed. He is too credible to allow for that to happen. Without begging the issue, He has stated clearly that He honours His Words more than His name – Psa. 138:2. If He will not do it, then He will not say it. The reality, despite this revealed fact is that man today lives in lack and fear of not knowing what tomorrow will bring. The same creatures that that he is supposed to dominate are now the ones that are sources of fear to him. Man is not operating like one with authority but one who someone else with authority is lording over. The word “dominate” means to have power, influence, commanding position or to be the overseer over something. None of this is revealed in the life of man today, instead what is being revealed is the opposite. Why is this so?
The story of the Prodigal son in a foreign land found in the scriptures aptly answers this question – Lk. 15:11-32. In his self inflicted position, which is due to his ambitious request for independence from his father, he found himself incapable of running his life, even with the availability of funds, which he would have thought was the only advantage the father had over him. He soon realised that ingredients for success were more than those skills acquired in business schools. It became clear to him that there were other factors of production outside those ones that economists proffer, most of which are unseen. He was aware that his father did not wish him the kind of life that his inordinate search for independence has brought on him. He took a decision to return to this father, whom he was not aware was waiting anxiously for his return. The father knew his son could not succeed with out Him and that He was always ready to have him back but will not force him to return. That was a decision he only would have to take – Rom. 10:9-10. He did take the decision to return to the father but must have been shocked with the reception he got. He was well celebrated.
You are aware today of the thoughts and plan of God for you – Jer. 29:11. It is definitely not the one you are living now. You are aware that he has been calling you (Rev. 3:20) as He has always promised that no one will be turned away from Him no matter how much of a sinner such may be – Jn. 6:37; Joel 2:32. You are also aware that He will not force you to return as your decision to return must be voluntary. Why then are you delaying? Is it that you do not like to dominate just as he has decreed into your life? Is it that you are still enjoying your freedom, even though it is bringing you so much pain and distress? It definitely is not fear of being rejected because you are aware that He will not reject you. Take a decision that will bring your soul joy and stop dancing to the lies of the devil with regards to your personality being involved. Decide to live your destiny of being created to dominate. May God help you as you take that great decision to dominate in Jesus name. Amen.
