Moses had been commissioned by the Almighty God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt after more than 400 years of sojourn there, to the land promised by God to Abraham – Gen. 15:1-16. 70 men had left for Egypt (Gen. 1:5) but more than 400 years after, more than 600,000 able bodied men between age of 20years and 65years, were leaving for Canaan in fulfillment of that Promise of God made to Abraham – Ex. 12:27. After about 11 plagues brought on Egypt by the Almighty God to demonstrate His greatness to Pharaoh and his people, the Israelites were eventually freed to proceed into their destiny. After travelling for about two months, they arrived at the Desert of Sinai in the third month and camped in front of the mountain, just as God had fore-told Moses when he was being called – Ex. 19:1-2; Ex. 3:1-12. Although they arrived Sinai in the third month after leaving Egypt, they were still there by the first day of the second month of the second year (Num. 1:1), a period of about 23 months. They finally set out of Sinai on the twentieth day of second month, of the second year after leaving Egypt, implying that they spent approximately 2 years at the foot of Mount Sinai.

By the way, most Bible scholars believe that both Mount Sinai and Mount Horeb are basically the same location. Although not all are in agreement on this, there is however no evidence yet to prove otherwise. Today’s scripture records the Almighty God as saying the Israelites, in spending about 2 years in that location had or were about to over stay in that location. This implies that there must have been divine timelines for each phase of the journey, probably not revealed to man but definitely known to God. They had to move to the next phase of the divine plan for their lives.

Most times, Christians do not realise that there is a divine plan that they must faithfully achieve during their journey in this realm so they live their lives in this realm like it is up to them solely to decide how they spend their period of stay here. The repercussion of this can vary from one person to another but none of them is desirable or comfortable. The disciples for example were told that they will receive power after the Holy Spirit had come on them, after which they were expected to take the Gospel to the nooks and crannies of the world, but they had other plans. For reasons best known to them, they decided to enjoy the comfort of their stay in Jerusalem. The repercussion of that is the great persecution they experienced which led to their being scattered around the world and having to preach the gospel wherever they found themselves, thus fulfilling the plan of God albeit painfully.

Have you tried to position the stress in your life today side by side with this possibility? That sudden opposition by that boss in that so called comfortable job for no just cause. Are you walking in the divine plan of God for your life? It is a question that you need to answer sincerely before making enemies out of everyone around you for opposing you unnecessarily. There is a divine plan for your life as you are not in the world by accident. You were made to fulfil a purpose known to your creator. You will have less stress if you operate in that plan as anything else will bring only pain and distress.

The Israelites spent a period longer than God’s allotted time for that phase of their journey to destiny mainly because of the shackles of spiritual adultery and the uncontrollable anger of their leader – Ex. 32:1 – 33:11. What should have been done once had to be repeated because of these twin reasons – Ex. 34:1. What is the shackle keeping you in that location? Stop wasting your time chasing shadows. You will not be able to progress until you discover and remove it because as it is obvious with the Lord, it may not be possible to progress without satisfactory completion of each phase of the divine plan for you. Satisfactory completion, not by human assessment but by divine assessment and approval. Save yourself from stagnation today. You are here because God put you here for a purpose. Discover His purpose for your life, remove all shackles obstructing your achieving that purpose and work hard to achieving it so that progress can be yours. May God help you achieve all these very soon in Jesus name. Amen.
