Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. – Matt. 12:45 KJV

Today we continue with yesterday’s scriptural text but with emphasis on what Jesus Christ said about the unclean spirit that was sent out of a man and the effect of such action on the person from whom the spirit was chased. Jesus in that scripture associated three activities with the removed unclean spirit.
1. It walks through dry places.
2. It keeps seeking rest.
3. It is not expected to find any.
The first revelation in this scripture about the spirit is that anywhere outside a living thing like a human being will be considered dry for a spirit. Dry because there is no soul to be manipulated to do the bidding of that spirit. There is definitely paucity of hosts for spirits and one can understand why a spirit that has a host will be very reluctant to leave unless forced out. Spirits have no relevance if they cannot influence anything whether man or animals. They are immortal but majority of them are homeless and so are irrelevant. They are also not loyal to their host because as soon as the host is no longer capable of serving their purpose, they leave searching for alternatives (Ps. 146:4) just as they are not responsible for anything that you do even though they are the enhancer of such activities as only the soul is judged. That is why a human being should take charge of his/her life by consciously deciding which spirit he/she hosts and do all in his/her power to send out any unwanted spirit. Once the spirit will not benefit the soul, it automatically becomes unclean to that soul because all its activities will be polluting the host soul.
It is not expected that a driven out spirit will have a new host especially if it is one that provides no positive advantage to the host. However should there be a soul available like Judas (Jn. 13:21-27) who became careless with his soul by entertaining thoughts that need to be activated by that spirit, It may be able to quickly have a new host but just as Christ thought in today’s scripture, there is generally no body ready to host it so it becomes unsettled and disturbed.
Until it finds a host, It will find no rest and that will remain its goal as it moves all over the places which will be described as dry places.
In searching for a new host, the possibility of re-possessing its lost home is never ruled out so it does come back frequently to check if that accommodation is still vacant and the power that chased it out during that deliverance process is no longer on guard. The process of deliverance being time based is around the only time that the power that forced the spirit out is in operation and the spirit knows that. Your spiritual leader or mentor that was the facilitator of your deliverance would not mount 24/7 spiritual guard for your soul and the spirit also knows this. It therefore remains your sole responsibility to ensure that this chased out spirit does not return and this is where most Christians miss it.
With the previous occupant chased out, a vacuum is created that cannot be left unoccupied as man also needs the spiritual component to be complete. The expectation of the person conducting the deliverance would be that the beneficiary of the deliverance will replace the chased out spirit with the Holy Spirit as the spiritual leader or mentor cannot perform this replacement exercise. It can only be done by the owner of the soul who is expected to take deliberate steps at inviting the Holy Spirit to come in. As easy as this may sound and really is, either out of ignorance, uncaring attitude or personal lust for things that are supposed to have been forgotten, the average Christian does not take this step and so on discovering that there is still a vacuum but the forces that chased it out are no longer in charge, the chased out spirit plans a return.
Jesus Christ in Matthew 12:45 says it does not come alone but arranges for seven other more wicked spirits to join it in its new residence. The implication is that this individual who had some problems that warranted the need for deliverance exercise to be carried out becomes worse than what he was before and that is after experiencing a period of relief. The time frame of this relief is very much dependent on how long it takes for the resistance against its return to reduce or disappear.
The question to you going through that difficulty that seems worse than what you faced before accepting Christ is;
1. Did you go through a deliverance process after accepting Christ as your Lord and Saviour?
2. Did you take the deliberate steps to invite the Holy Spirit to occupy the vacuum left by the departed unclean spirit.
It is very likely that your response to those questions is a “No” and that also explains the reason why things got worse for you. You still remain saved as that is a Grace you will always have as long as you profess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour but it will be difficult to have peace and comfort in this world as the occupying spirit will continue its tormenting acts especially now that it has seven additional and more wicked spirits joining it in its wicked activities in your life. The possibility of losing your salvation is also very high as the challenges may be so overwhelming and lead one to source solution from other gods thus denying the Almighty God and His son Jesus Christ.
It is still not late for you to remedy your situation. Seek God for deliverance and let Him deliver you from that spirit that has been tormenting your life. Follow that up immediately with a plea for the Almighty God to endue you with His Holy Spirit and you will have successfully locked out that spirit. Your new status in the Lord will then be permanent and you can then be sure that peace and comfort will return into your life. I am sure He will do it for you if you ask Him all these in Jesus name. Amen.
