The Psalmist in today’s scripture had earlier revealed the intention of God to come down with judgement on His people. His anger with them is found in verses 17 to 20 of that same Psalm 50. God had accused them of transgressions ranging from refusing instructions and supporting adulterers, to speaking evil and framing deceit with their tongue, whilst not ruling out their sitting and speaking evil against one another, in addition to slandering their brother. What infuriated him the more was their trying to trigger his covenants when they are so neck deep in all these afore-mentioned transgressions, and expecting that their sacrifices would still yield the desired result. He felt the need to let them realise that he is coming down with His judgement and performance of all the necessary sacrifices expected to yield blessings can only bring on them judgement which means punishments and related negative rewards.

In His admonition of them in that Psalm 50, he made them realise that whatever they may be presenting as sacrifice was:
1. His from the onset before they brought it – vs. 10-11.
2. He did not have any need for them – vs. 8-9
3. And if he did need those materials, He would not have to depend on them to have it for Himself – vs. 12.
He thus advised them to focus on two areas that could save them from His wrath in addition to making adjustments along the lines of the transgressions listed above. If only they could in addition to the above – Ps. 50: 14 – 15;
1. Offer thanksgiving to the Almighty God.
2. Pay their vows.
God would do three things if they follow his advise as stated above:
1. Answer their call in the day of trouble.
2. He will deliver them from that trouble.
3. And He God will be glorified in their situation.
Today’s Christian expends so much effort in the church being involved in various activities. These efforts range from physical to material, because they are aware of the fact that the Almighty God is a rewarding God. He does not owe anyone and he is always rewarding all those who invest in his works on earth. They deny themselves lots of comfort to get the best done in His name. Physically and financially, lots of resources are deployed but expectations are not met, rather, in some cases, things even go worse thus giving the impression, either that God is being ungrateful or He does not exist at all. The truth however is that all those sacrifices, as much as they are supposed to be a way of getting the attention of the Lord, just as Solomon was able to achieve with his sacrifices (1Kg. 3:4-14), end up being a complete waste. This is because of those hindrances earlier mentioned. Could this be why your expectations after all those sacrifices were not met? Could this be why you experienced loss instead of gain after your trading with Him? Could this be why you are getting frustrated in your relationship with Him? You need to examine your life very well and convince yourself that you are not involved in any of the above listed hindrances else you will be on a journey of wasted efforts if you continue to expect anything different from what you may be getting now. If anything, things may go worse than you can ever imagine.

God wants you to stop doing all those things listed above and add to it thanksgiving and fulfilment of vows. It is then that all those efforts that you have been putting into His work on earth will have a reward. There is no house that you can build to bribe Him – Jer. 7:12-13. There no money that can be used influence Him – Acts 8: 18-24. There is no physical or spiritual activity that can sway Him – Matt. 7:21-23. They will all be seen as sacrifices made to Him but will still have no desired impact if corrections are not effected in the areas of what he wants done and what he wants avoided.

Resolve to adjust today and you are assured of those rewards stated above which is that He will not only hear your call in the day of trouble but also grant you the desired victory that will bring glory to his name in that your situation. May God help you to do the right thing that will aide the acceptance of all your sacrifices and grant you the desired rewards in Jesus name. Amen.

  1. I wish to express appreciation to this writer for bailing me out of this particular issue. Because of browsing through the world wide web and finding thoughts which were not pleasant, I figured my entire life was done. Existing without the presence of answers to the difficulties you have solved as a result of your good guide is a critical case, as well as those that might have in a wrong way affected my entire career if I hadn’t discovered your blog. That mastery and kindness in dealing with every part was precious. I am not sure what I would’ve done if I had not come across such a stuff like this. I am able to at this time relish my future. Thanks so much for the reliable and results-oriented guide. I won’t think twice to endorse your web site to anyone who needs and wants recommendations about this subject.
