The scripture for today relates to an event that happened in Cana of Gallilee. Jesus Christ had been invited as a guest to the wedding reception and it is likely that his entire family was invited too as his mum was also in attendance. Like all wedding ceremonies, lots of effort must have been put into the planning with everything seemingly perfect and faultless. However, amidst all these planning no one anticipated failure, after all the entire plan seemed perfect.

Everything seemed to be going on fine until suddenly the wine got finished. One can only imagine the confusion at that point until Jesus’ mother approached him to inform him of the challenge and the possible embarrassment that the young couple were facing and asking for the intervention of Jesus Christ in their situation – Jn. 2:1-11.

The wine finished, not because anyone sabotaged them or wished them evil. It was not because of any enemy action but because they did not anticipate failure. They were however lucky that Jesus was in attendance and he saved them from shame and disgrace.

Most Christians today are in very bad situations that they did not anticipate today. Many marriages that started out like a partnership made in heaven is today being seen as one contracted in hell, many businesses that looked very successful before now are today in shambles, many lives that looked very promising are today in wrecks all because they did not plan for failure. When things were at the planning stage or when it started going well, they did not anticipate failure.

The truth is that no one can actually foresee every failure that can come up in life and so one can only plan as far as one can see and project. Human ability to see far into the future is very limited and so no matter how much one wishes to plan, one can only plan for what one can anticipate. However the fact that one cannot see it does not mean that it cannot happen and that is why in planning for failure, one has to rely on Him that has the ability to see the end from the beginning and everything in between.

The presence of Jesus at that ceremony saved that couple from embarrassment even though it is obvious they did not know his capability else they would have invited him instantly to come to their rescue. As we all know, wine is the main item at such ceremonies and the availability of wine signifies excitement. Without wine, a party of that nature is dead in terms of excitement. Jesus provided them wine on that occasion that was even of a better quality than what they started with.

Being a Christian or being in Church does not isolate you from such embarrassments in life. What saves you in such moments is the invitation you extend to him to intervene in that situation. You do not have to wait for the wine in your marriage, business, life, etc. to finish before inviting Christ into it. Plan for failure that comes with every human plan because perfection is not with man. Call Jesus Christ in from the beginning to serve as insurance against anticipated failure and leave him in control all through. He cannot fail you because he never fails – Matt. 8:23-27. He does not always stop the storm, occasionally he makes you ride the storm – Matt. 14:22-36. Halleluyah! Make him the foundation from the beginning so that you can enjoy quality and long lasting excitement from the beginning through to the end. You do not have to wait until there is panic or possible failure before you start running from pillar to post.

If however you were not smart enough to plan for failure and the wine is already finished in your marriage, relationship, business or your family, you also have the Grace to invite him today to save you from the shame and embarrassment that has come upon you. Do not mind whatever obstacles you may meet like been given all the reasons why Jesus will not answer you (Matt. 15:22-28), just stick with him and obey all his instructions (Jn. 2:5) and you can be sure that better wine will be provided for that situation and you will have excitement that is much better than what you were used to having – Jn. 2:10. Forget about all those witches and wizards as they are just trying to be relevant and they have no part to play in that your failure. The real problem was your none preparation for failure. Stick with him and the excitement will be back in no time and you can begin to enjoy your peace in that marriage, business, family again.

May the God of restoration restore all that you have lost in Jesus name. Amen.
