“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – Jn. 8:32 KJV
The scripture today refers to an advise Jesus Christ gave to his disciples and which remains relevant today to all people, particularly Christians. It refers to two major factors that are necessary for success in life: “knowledge” and “freedom”. Jesus Christ in that scripture reveals the link between the two stating that the acquisition of one will lead to the possession of the other. He implied by that scripture that the disciples were in some form of bondage and the only way out of that bondage was for them to have true knowledge. They will automatically be free when they have that knowledge.
However, in the world today especially among Christians these two words do not go together and that probably explains the bondage that most have remained in. Most Christians today are not interested in acquisition of knowledge of God, either by reading the Bible or hearing sermons or teachings but they are desperately in search of freedom from one form of bondage or the other expecting support from this same God that they do not desire to know. They believe and rightfully so too that freedom from that bondage is the key to their success but prefer to go through an intermediary rather than directly to God who can grant them freedom through the knowledge that he will bestow on them. Their inability to achieve desired success through their chosen path has led them into a state probably worse than where they started from. Today several started their journey with the Lord but are now with the disguised devil in the name of a spiritual leader or a Church.
Nobody likes the inconvenience of being in bondage as it is no doubt a limiting situation. An individual in bondage can only go as far as the set limit in practically everything. The bondage can be physical and/or spiritual but they both amount to same as they end up limiting success. The scripture today reveals that the starting point for any form of freedom is to acquire the right knowledge about the bondage. Without this knowledge, any solution applied will be from the point of ignorance and thus makes success a chance thing. You definitely should not reduce your success in life to a chance game.
In any unacceptable situation that a forward looking person may find him/her self, the journey to freedom must start with acquiring knowledge about the situation by successfully and truthfully answering the following questions: where am I coming from, how did I get here, where am I going and how can I get there? Any move made without honestly answering these questions will likely end in greater bondage.
Of the four above listed questions, only one of them can to some extent be correctly answered by the individual which is: “where am I now”. This is because to some extent an individual can see how bad things are. There are however so many happenings around him/her that are not visible to the ordinary eye and such will require some spiritual ability to see. Some people are in worse situation than they know as the total implication of their situation is yet to dawn on them. All they need to do is compare yesterday to today and will then be able to have an idea of the unseen damage that is currently being done to their lives today that will manifest tomorrow.
The limitations to having a right answer to these questions account for the dilemma that Christians have found themselves in today. In the search for solution to life challenges, they have received several wrong answers to these questions. The proof that they have wrong answers is in the fact that the recommended and applied solution has not led to freedom from the bondage. It may be possible to have an ineffective solution even with a right answer to these questions but it is very impossible to have a right solution with a wrong answer. It means that the foundation for this freedom will be to get a right answer as that will help to proffer an effective solution.
All thanks to God, Christ did not just highlight this solution but also gave an implementation path. He advised that Christians should seek right answers from the Holy Spirit as He is the teacher that he has left with us so we will not be orphans – Jn. 14:18. Christians therefore if they are to have this knowledge must seek this teacher and plead that he takes over the affairs of their life as the deficiency of the required knowledge can only push Christians further into bondage.
Less or no resource(s) will probably have expended just as the Christian may have faced less or no disappointment(s) or better still may have been freed from that bondage if he/she had sought knowledge about that situation from the Holy Spirit. It is however not too late to do so as the scripture says whoever asks shall receive Holy Spirit after baptism in the name of Christ – Lk. 11:13. Your baptism is your key to opening that door of knowledge because that is what helps you to receive the Holy Spirit and by implication knowledge for freedom – Acts 2:38; 10:44; 19:2-6.
If you are still under that long-term bondage, then you may need to re-assess the value and appropriateness of your baptism because there is no doubt about the freedom that will follow the proper utilisation of the knowledge that the Holy Spirit brings – Acts 1:8.
May God grant us all knowledge for freedom from all our bondages in Jesus name. Amen.
