It Is Still Your Choice.

…I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” – Ps. 84:10 KJV

Decisions are like approved action plan by single or group of animals man inclusive on specific issues. At the time decision is made, all that remains is implementation as a decision is meaningless if not implemented. Inability to implement a decision will be the fault of the individual or group that took the decision because capacity to implement is part of the points to have been considered during the process leading to a decision. The result of an implemented decision will also be a measure of the quality of the decision taken and a reflection of the intellectual capacity of the decision makers.

Many lives today especially of adults are the way they are (positive or negative) because of the decision that the respective individuals took at critical stages of life – Jug. 14:1-3; 16:6-23. Most of the time, people are quick to blame others when implemented decisions turn out negative (Gen. 3:9-12) but nothing can be far from the truth. It may be true that many people commented during the decision making process but the eventual step taken was the individual’s decision once there is no evidence of coercion. The best all these people could have done was to influence the decision making process. No matter how convincing their arguments may be, the individual still had the final decision to make on his own.

David in the scripture today took a decision to ignore all the comfort that will be in a tent and settle for a position where he will be beaten by weather for reasons best known to him. He was definitely not ignorant as he was never described as a foolish king. Subsequent events of in his life indicated that he took the right decision because he was not the only one that enjoyed royal lifestyle but even generations unborn benefited from that decision.

The three Hebrews in Babylon also gained promotion beyond their expectation because they took decisions that turned out to be right – Dan.3:8; 3:12-18; Dan. 6:10. Starting from the time of their arrival in Babylon to their individual tests, they stuck with their decision and it paid off.

A good decision may not produce instant positive result but the decision maker needs to constantly go back to review the factors that he/she considered in the decision making process so as to be sure as to whether to continue with his earlier decision or there is a need to review it.

Most Christians today are victims of their own decision but they remain in their situation because they keep blaming others for decisions they made and chose to implement. They will be better off once they begin to see themselves as the product of the decision they took and stop blaming those who influenced the process that led to the wrong decision in the first place. Only then will they realise that just as they were 100% responsible for their situation, it is still totally their choice to remain in it and they have total responsibility to take a decision to get out of that situation.

In some cases there is this awareness of their rights to change that decision but are bothered about avoiding the associated shame to save their personality but all they need to realise is that the decision not to stand up after falling in public because of shame will only leave them in that position for many more people to see them in their fallen state. You do not pray to stand up in such situation, you take a decision to stand up.

But it is always better to avoid taking a wrong decision in the first place. Most of these wrong decisions are products of mediocre thought process and influences from wrong personalities. The Christian is better off getting advice from the perfect adviser, the Almighty God through the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit is your adviser, you cannot take a wrong decision but if you have already taken a wrong decision, you need to boldly acknowledge the error and take another decision to review it, a step that is wholly dependent on you. it is only after that, that the Holy Spirit can be invited for guidance as to what new decision to take..

However you should always remember that all that everyone including the Holy Spirit can do is to give advice as it will always be your choice to make and implement the decision. May God help us to make and implement decisions that will impact positively on our lives in Jesus name.
