Let Him Build For You.

Except the Lord build…” – Ps. 127:1 KJV
The above Psalm read in its entirety seems to be referencing human labour and having children but it will be wrong to limit the influence of the Almighty God to these two areas of human endeavour. There is no doubt that God’s influence covers all aspects of human endeavour and it is wise to follow this path in discussing this major insight revealed in the above psalm into how to be successful in life.

The Psalmist in the scripture reveals a major requirement for growth and success which is “building”. Anyone who desires success must build and every process of building starts with a foundation. The Psalmist concludes that even this foundation cannot just be laid based on personal decision. It will require the sole act of the Lord. He is not advising that the Lord should be part of it but is saying that the Lord should be the all in all for it to happen. It means that the human contribution is not recognised or required in this foundational step of deciding what to do, where to do it and how to do it as it is 100% the Will and decision of the Lord. Implementation according to his Will is what should be the contribution of man.

This decision making process remains the only model to that can ensure the good success that Christians and non-Christians alike desire. By nature the human being especially the ambitious and progressive minded one has several ideas on what to do and how to go about it. Most of these ideas are the product of what we were thought, what we are seeing daily, what we are being pressured into by the environment and what we believe we should be doing and have the ability to do.

With all these at the back of our mind, we set out strategies for achieving all these laudable objectives and we try to project on possible obstacles, challenges and solutions that will be applied. Most of these projected obstacles are based on human knowledge and experiences of others but after all these boardroom-like projections and strategies, we most times meet with new challenges during implementation that were not planned for and which in most cases make all the effort result in failure.

The Psalmist in the above scripture says efforts will be in vain if God is not the one building. Some are quick to point out that non-Christians are arguably more successful than Christians but the Psalmist was not limiting this exposition to Christians alone but to all people who are able to link up with the creator of the earth on whatever idea they plan to implement. Going to church to ask God to approve what you have started without His input is not same as asking him if you can start in the first place. Christians bring so many uncompleted projects to God expecting him to deploy His resources to finish it for them on their own terms without considering whether he finds such projects viable and acceptable to Him in the first place. Failed projects such as marriages, businesses and other similar ventures are brought to him with the caveat that He can only complete as it is and not adjust it or demolish it for the purpose of re-building. They expect the patching up of what cannot stand and it all ends in frustration because God does not get involved in such projects. When we submit projects (our lives) to him, we are expected to entrust everything to Him completely as no half measures is acceptable.

The Almighty God cannot be muscled into doing the Will of men. You either hand it over to Him from the foundation level so he will take charge in deciding what kind of foundation to be laid or you let him decide how he wants to correct the failed project you have brought to Him in a manner He deems best. With God you cannot be considering the resources you have invested as they become meaningless to Him once he takes over. That is why He is God.

If you have a failed project that you want Him to take over on your behalf, then you must give Him total control and allow Him to have His way. You are luckier if you have not started as you can from inception invite Him into the concept using the following steps:

  1. Ask Him if the idea you have is by His inspiration or through your human reasoning – Ex. 2:11 – 3:22; Jug. 6:33-40, 1Sam. 30:8.
  2. If it is His inspiration, ask him how and when he wants you to go about it – 2Chr. 20:1-3.
  3. Ask Him to let you know and meet destiny helpers for the projects so that you do not have the wrong personalities around you – Jug. 7:1-end.
If you have diligently and honestly done all the above and you still seem to be having delays in implementation and completion, relax and fear not because you are in safe hands. He will never start a journey that He will not finish because He is Alpha and Omega – Rev. 22:13.

Entrusting your life to Him which is what giving your life to Him is all about. Everything in His hands are safe and you are assured of victory no matter how long it takes. It does not imply that you will not experience challenges, if anything you should expect greater opposition when you are operating His plan but you can rest, assured that victory is certain – Jn. 16:33.

Learn to surrender everything from idea conception level through implementation to completion to Him as any approach will deprive you of the wisdom required for laying the proper foundation for success of the idea. Also learn to walk with Him patiently as His timing is not your timing and His ways are not your ways.

May God grant us all the Grace to submit to Him fully and completely in all things in Jesus name – Amen.
